Love Replacement - 2nd Chapter

Genre: Angst / Romance

Summary: A different kind of River and Megan. 

River watches her walk further away from him and walk to the opposite direction. He keeps on thinking about his impulsive act. If his mother didn’t keep on nagging him about getting married and always arrange blind date for him, he won’t make this decision. 

“Bianca, did I make a good decision? You won’t blame me right?” River asks himself as he watches the stars above.

Megan still couldn’t believe what she has heard. She keeps on changing the channel - cursing River for making her restless. Lean her head to the chair, she thinks about River proposal. 

“He did treat me good and he is a good friend but the problem is I didn’t love him. How can I live with him” putting her hand on her face and keep mumbling to herself.

For few days she can’t do anything correctly or properly and being scolded for doing simple mistake. And in this few days also River didn’t even try to call her and really thankful about it. She didn’t need anymore distraction or any pressure from him. 

River on the other side can’t think straight. He needs to pursue Megan to accept his marriage proposes. His timeline is near to end. He promises his mother within end of the month he will bring home his girlfriend and it made him become too desperate. He has to do something and after 2 days of silent from Megan, he decides he needs to step up his game.

And… After the 3^rd day, Megan received a bouquet of red roses on her office desk with a card – Please marry me -.

4^th day, she get a beautiful Fossil watch and a card – I’m waiting for the answer. Please marry me -.

5^th day, she get a delivery package by hand from Tiffany & Co. It’s a necklace with a key pendant. A card – You hold the key to my heart. Please marry me -.

The routine goes for another 5 day. Megan knows she has to give River the answer and after a deep thought she will follow what her heart says. 

“Hello River, meet me at the usual place… Yes, tomorrow 8.30pm” Megan end her call.

Lying down on bed, she tries to catch a sleep and after tossing left and right she arrive in her dreamland.

Megan stirs her coffee with River staring at her. Megan felt her heart having a somersault, her stomach feeling nausea and her head become dizzy.

“How long will you keep on silence?” River asks her.

Megan sips her coffee “Since I don’t want you to waste more money on those stupid present. I’ve made the decision. I accept you propose but I don’t want any grand wedding, just a simple one in a small chapel”.

River widens his eyes when he hears about Megan proposal. Not that he against her request but he have reputation and name to be considered. He just can’t simply be wed and not be announce to the world. His mother will make a fuss about it. He have once told Megan about his wedding plan when he found a bride but now Megan want to cancel all of his plan and arrangement.

“But Megan, I have reputation to be consider and my mother, she won’t agree with you” River tried to tell her his reason.

“No. I don’t want any big weds. I don’t like being around people” Megan stare at River.

The staring game starts but River needs to stand to his decision.

“Please Megan, can you just agree with everything that I have plan before”.

“No and I mean it. Take it or leave it” Megan threatened River. 

River sign in defect “Ok but you have to meet my mother before we got married. I’ll arrange for the two of you to meet”. Megan nod and they both leave the coffee shop.

After two days, River brings Megan to meet his mother at their house. River knows his mother will talking ill towards Megan. They both have been in war since he told her about his intension to marry Megan. She didn’t approve Megan as Megan isn’t from a wealthy family and just an average girl.

River interlaces their fingers while driving and sometimes he will squeeze her hand and rub his thumb slowly on her knuckles. Megan notices it and she knows River is intense. The ride was a total silence. No one dares to open their mouth because both of them know what was in their mind – the mother –.

Megan fell like she just walks inside a palace. The interior was outstanding with the colour of the wall, type of furniture arrangement shows how wealthy River family is. They both been assist to the living room and Megan saw a elegant lady siting at a cough reading newspaper and when the maid told her their arrival, she immediately put down the paper and look intensely towards her and River.

“Megan, please meet my mother and mom this is Megan” River formally introduce her to his mother.

“Mrs. Chen, nice to meet you” Megan bow and put on a respectful smile. 

River mother look at her with a smirk. River notice it and he suddenly hug his mother and kiss her cheek.

“Mom, please be nice” River plead his mom in a low voice.

His mother threw a sharp eye to him. Taking Megan hand, Mrs. Chen drag Megan to sit beside her and she turn to face her. 

“Do you really want to married my son?” Megan nodded with her eyes looking at Mrs. Chen nervously.

“Did he pay you?”

“Mom!” River throws a stern voice to his mother.

“Chen Chu He, Don’t interrupt me while I’m talking” Mrs. Chen give a warn tone to her son. 

River knows the tone very well and he also knew when his mother calls him with his full name. This is not going to sounds good. He better keep his mouth shut. He looks at Megan with a concern look.

“Son, why don’t you just wait for us at the dining hall or you can go somewhere else for the mean time. Let me have a little talk with Megan… alone” Mrs. Chen emphasizes the word to River.

River slowly stands up, drags himself out of the living hall and he disappears behind a big door. Megan on the other half already sweat like a rain watching River left her with his mom alone. Note that phrase again, alone as in A.L.O.N.E. 

Mrs. Chen takes a brown envelope and passes it to Megan. She opens it and read the content; her eyes immediately become bigger and tears welling.

“How…How…” Megan felt the word choked in her throat.
